Our Curriculum
We want our children to leave with high aspirations and ambition for their future. At the end of their time at Overstone Primary school, they will know and feel that the world is exciting and diverse and will understand their role in protecting the planet. Through our curriculum, the children will take part in a range of experiences that engage them in the wider world. We want them to have the confidence, skills and knowledge to engage in conversations; they will respect the contributions of others and share their own informed opinions and ideas.
We follow integrated topic themes which children find interesting and engaging and which ensure that the National Curriculum content is delivered effectively. Our curriculum drivers, running throughout this, are democracy, environment, diversity and aspiration.
An increased provision for creative arts and physical activity ensures that all pupils enjoy a curriculum full of opportunities so they can find their interests and talents; and so that during their time in school, children’s personal, social and emotional well-being is valued to the same extent as their breadth of academic achievement - leading to a “well-rounded” child. These opportunities are extended in our extracurricular provision.
Phonics & Reading
The school teaches reading through a variety of methods. We follow RWI (Read write inc) as our main phonics approach to reading.
